Mic and Couch is extremely delighted to present Amol Parashar’s first ever show in London!
This show is about a young ‘progressive’ man who spirals into a hilarious and thought-provoking cycle of self-introspection when confronted by the discomfort of handling his wife’s lingerie in front of his parents.
A young married man, raised in a traditional Indian household, prides himself on his progressive values, sharing household responsibilities equally with his wife. However, when his parents visit for an extended stay, an unexpected hesitation creeps in—he finds himself unable to hang his wife’s undergarments to dry in their presence. This seemingly small incident triggers a deep introspection into his past, societal conditioning, and ingrained fears.
Through a humorous yet poignant self-examination, he unpacks his childhood shame, the patriarchal expectations around masculinity, and his subconscious need for parental approval. Ultimately, he realises that true progressiveness isn’t just about personal beliefs but about standing by them, even in uncomfortable situations. In a moment of self-acceptance, he embraces his values unapologetically, even if it means being a “besharam aadmi”
